Quint Carlisle

DVM/OWNER

Dr. Quint Carlisle, DVM, is the Owner of Smith Animal Hospital. Born and raised in Spartanburg, Dr. Quint graduated from Spartanburg Day School in 1996. He pursued his passion for veterinary medicine at the University of Georgia, where he completed both his undergraduate studies and vet school, graduating in 2003. After working in Atlanta for a year, he returned to Spartanburg in 2004 to be closer to family and friends.

Dr. Quint’s lifelong interest in medicine and animals naturally led him to a career in veterinary medicine. He enjoys the variety the profession offers, from surgery to general medicine, and takes great pleasure in helping patients and their owners. His passion for the field was affirmed early on, as he found immense satisfaction in seeing the appreciation from pet owners and the positive outcomes of his cases.

Professionally, Dr. Quint has a particular interest in surgery, ultrasound, and medicine. His dedication to the field extends beyond his practice; he has served on the state veterinary association for three years, contributing to the advancement of veterinary medicine and supporting his colleagues.

Outside of work, Dr. Quint is happily married to his wife Anna for four years, and they have a beautiful daughter, with hopes of expanding their family. He enjoys fishing, outdoor activities, and has a passion for music, both playing and listening. Additionally, Dr. Quint loves baseball and cooking, making the most of his time with family and friends.

Oswald Harris King III

DVM/OWNER

Dr. Oswald, affectionately known as Sonny, hails from the charming town of Blakely, Georgia. He completed both his undergraduate and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degrees at The University of Georgia. During his academic journey, Dr. King undertook an externship at Smith Animal Hospital in Spartanburg, where he fell in love with the town and its warm, welcoming community. This experience was further enriched when he married a local resident, solidifying his connection to Spartanburg, where he has happily resided ever since.

Dr. King’s passion for veterinary medicine ignited during his freshman year at veterinary school. From the moment he stepped into his classes, he knew he had found his calling. His favorite aspect of working with animals is witnessing the joy and relief on the faces of children and elderly clients when he successfully helps their beloved pets.

Professionally, Dr. King has a profound interest in canine sports medicine and nutrition, alongside a fascination with the unique quirks of cat ownership. His dedication to the veterinary field is highlighted by his decade-long involvement in the mushing community, including four years as a trail veterinarian and six years as a musher in the renowned Iditarod Sled Dog Race. Dr. King’s exemplary service has earned him prestigious accolades such as The Golden Stethoscope Award, bestowed by the mushers, and The Leonhard Seppala Award for excellence in dog care from his fellow veterinarians. These honors cement his legacy in the Iditarod history.

In addition to his many professional achievements, Dr. King has been recognized with numerous city and state awards, the most notable being The Order of the Palmetto. This distinguished award, presented by the Governor of South Carolina, honors his lifetime of extraordinary achievements and contributions on both national and statewide levels.

Outside of his veterinary practice, Dr. King enjoys a fulfilling personal life. He is married with four grown children and three grandchildren. In his leisure time, he is an avid supporter of University of Georgia sports and relishes the tranquility of farm life. Dr. King’s commitment to his community, profession, and family continues to make him a beloved figure at Smith Animal Hospital and beyond.

We are hiring a full-time associate veterinarian looking to join our progressive, companion animal veterinary hospital in Spartanburg, SC!

This position would be a great opportunity for a new graduate looking for mentorship and an experienced veterinarian looking to grow their clientele within our practice!

By joining our private practice, you will enjoy flexibility in your schedule, autonomy to provide care as you see fit, and have an actual say in how things are done; something often not found in corporate practices.

You will gain experience working on a wide variety of surgical and medical cases, using the latest technology available so that you can do your best for your clients and their pets. This includes an in-house laboratory, pharmacy, digital x-ray, dual surgery suites with electrocautery and dental capability. We also have access to a top-notch radiologist when their input may be needed and trusted advanced care professionals to assist beyond our abilities.

You will feel confident as you grow, with support, collaboration and learning from 2 doctors that bring a combined 70 years of experience to the field and a growing team of veterinary professionals working right beside you. We are also supported by two sister practices that provide resources and assistance when needed.

Our practice is in the beautiful upstate of South Carolina! Spartanburg is known for its quality of life and as a great place to raise a family. It is one of the fastest growing areas in the nation for local businesses, the arts, entertainment, and recreation and is within easy driving distance of the mountains and ocean. We are big proponents of supporting local and encourage our employees to do the same.

 

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: We are a full-service veterinary practice. You will be responsible for general small animal veterinary medicine. This includes performing small animal surgery, preventative health care, pet dental care, and vaccinations. There is an opportunity for orthopedic services if desired but not required.

Our clinic is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. You will be expected to work four days a week with two of those being full days (10-hour shifts). We have NO weekend office hours and NO after-hours or on-call schedule. We want you to be able to spend the time you need to attend to your patient and form a solid relationship with their owners.

We see about 100 – 120 clients per day. Some days can be steady, but fast-paced. Other days may be slower, but more time may be committed to each client and their needs. We do our best working as a team to keep things running smoothly, but you will need to be able to handle sudden changes as they come.
